The Issue

In Singapore, primeval rain forests have been whittled to less than 0.3 per cent. With rising temperatures and sea levels, and given the inter-connectivity between the well-being of humans and the health of nature and biodiversity, there is a need to seriously rethink what value the last wilderness areas mean in Singapore. It is crucial to act now to preserve them.

The Solution

They have crafted a range of environmental education programmes centred on the twin pillars of experiential environmentalism and local culture. Thus far, they have reached out to thousands of participants aged 5 to 85 of all socio-economic backgrounds.
Cicada Tree Eco-Place
Cicada Tree Eco-Place are a non-profit, non-governmental organisation run entirely by a group of volunteer educators and environmentalists. Co-founded in 2006 by a group of five Singaporeans, and supported by volunteer educators, conservationists, environmentalists, eco-artists and wildlife activists, it was formally registered as a society the following year in 2007.
